The 1980s were known for materialism and greed, but if you were around, you may also remember great pop culture, general excessiveness, and {questionable} style.

The 1980s was known for over-the-top, glamorous, big hair, and indulgence. As a child who grew up in the 1980s, we had more freedom than our kids do today. Some of that was because of the “safer” time and the fact that life was so different then but some of it was also because our lives are more connected now.

So besides learning that big hair is tacky hair, what other lessons can we learn from the 1980s that we could use today? Well the two big things comes to my mind: 1-Everything in Moderation and 2-Life Evolves.

Let’s translate that into business today. In this marathon called life, strategy, plans, and goals go hand-in-hand. Strategy and plans are great – they help us create roadmaps we can follow. They help you reach your goals and stay on track. So create a Business Plan, a Marketing Plan, and even a Systems Plan to help ensure you don’t take on too much and become overwhelmed.

First, “Everything in Moderation.” Most business owners I know have big goals-and in an attempt to change our habits, sometimes we go from one extreme to the other (no plans to over planning). Instead, let’s work together to create a realistic plan that can be maintained.

We can work together with your plans and use strategy to break down your goals and plans into actionable items that can be implemented. Once we start implementing the plans, you will find yourself more productive and accomplishing more tasks.

The other lesson from the 80s is that Life Evolves. Remember the computers we had in the 1980s? They were big, slow, and we had to learn a different language to use them. Computers and technology was evolving just as they continue to evolve today. No one could have imagined we would have phones with built in computers that fit in the palm of our hand or wear on our arm as watches.

So just as life and technology evolves, your business and your goals need to evolve. When you create a strategy to reach your goals and build the business you want, you’ll be able to plan and structure the evolution.
