Isn’t Marketing Really Just A New Term For Advertising?

Marketing is far more than just advertising. And it is far more work than creating a catchy slogan or logo. With the right tools, creativity, and a lot of perseverance, your marketing campaigns can be successful.

“Marketing is easy. Any idiot can do that!” Yes I have heard that said before.

And while marketing may be easy, seeing positive ROI (return on investment), or results, from successful marketing campaigns may not be easy. In fact, after a lot of hard work and money spent, you may find your marketing campaign wasn’t that successful after all.

Sometimes something works and it makes sense. Other times, it doesn’t and you may not understand why it doesn’t work.

In fact, I’ll counter the statement with one of my very own… “Marketing is a challenge that is {always-to-sometimes} fun, hard work, frustrating, confusing, expensive, and vital to say the least.” But that isn’t very catchy, is it?!

Consider the penny. There are many sensible reasons to stop using and producing the penny. Yet, 66% of Americans want to keep the penny. The marketing campaigns to keep the penny in circulation and production are clever, draw on nostalgia, and generally funded by grass-root efforts.

At the end of the day, “marketing” is simply figuring out how to put your product (or provide your service) to a group of people. And if that really were an easy task, why isn’t every product or service a success?
